How hard are you on yourself? Think about it. The things you tell yourself in your head every day, would you ever dare to say those things out loud to another person? How often do you put yourself down or disparage your abilities or your body? How often do you feel not worthy or less than?
It's time to give yourself permission. Permission to be you. Permission to not be perfect. Permission to have a few extra pounds. Permission to forget your keys. Permission to make a mistake at work. Permission to lose your temper. Permission to be flawed. Permission to have one drink too many. To eat that whole sandwich. Permission to indulge. Permission to try your best and still come up short. To have a negative thought and then reframe it. To get angry. To be sad. Permission to need help. To ask for help. To accept help.
It's time to be ok with anything and everything. To recognize that some days you're on top of your game and other days you struggle to get out of bed. To accept failure. To encourage failure! To learn and grow. Wash, rinse, repeat.
We are all doing the best we can. Allow yourself space to figure out this thing called life. No one has it all together. NO ONE. Don't believe social media. That is rose-colored glasses times 1,000. That is the best of a moment. A snippet. It doesn't reflect anyone's true life or true struggle. You will have fat days and thin days. Smart days and dumb days. Days where you leave your keys in the refrigerator or your glasses on your head and wander around for an hour looking for them. Days where you ate a pint of ice cream or bag of chips or sleeve of cookies. It's ok. Let it go. Dust yourself off and do better tomorrow.
Yes, there will always be people who are more dedicated, more strict, more "perfect." Good for them. You don't walk in their shoes. You don't have their bodies or their lives. You know nothing of their struggle. Stay in your own lane. Be the best you can be. Sure, you can pass people if you feel up to it, but otherwise, just enjoy the ride. Take in the scenery. Breathe the fresh air. Be present in the moment. Take nothing for granted. Embrace everything. Live passionately and fully. Create good energy and send it out to others. Be grateful for what you have.
So while we only have one life to live, if you don't carpe diem every damn day, that's ok. Try your best when you can and embrace the suck when you can't. The bad days and the rough times make us appreciate the good ones. The down days make us thankful for the up days. And there is always a better something around the corner. It might be tomorrow or next week or next month, but it's there, waiting to be discovered. Stay positive. Believe in yourself and your abilities. You are enough. You are you and therefore you are the best you there is. No question about it.
So allow yourself to be you, whoever that is today. Own the shit out of yourself and don't allow others to cloud who you are and want to be. Give yourself permission to be you. End of story.
